Summit Technopolis Limited breaks ground at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park

Summit Technopolis Limited in partnership with Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) under the ICT Ministry, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, is developing 91 acres at Block II and Block V of the Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park in Gazipur.
The company carried out the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the First Signature Building at Block II and First Hi-Tech Manufacturing Unit in Block V on Sunday, February 28th, 2016 at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park, in Gazipur. Mr. Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP, Hon’ble State Minister, ICT Division, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest. Mr. Shyam Sunder Sikder, Secretary of ICT Division, ICT Ministry, GOB chaired the event. Also present were H.E. High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Mr. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, H.E. High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Bangladesh, Mr. Yasoja Gunasekera, Mr. Muhammed Aziz Khan, Chairman, Summit Group, Mr. Ravindra Chamaria, Chairman, Infinity Infotech Parks Ltd., Ms. Hosne Ara Begum, ndc, MD (Additional Secretary), Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, Mr. Abu Reza Khan, MD, Summit Technopolis Ltd., and Mr. Sanjeewa Wick, Chairman, EWIS Sri Lanka.
Summit Technopolis Ltd. will develop Blocks II and V with modern multi-tenanted buildings, industrial plots, R&D facilities, and recreational facilities, including a Signature Building at Block II. The Signature Building is based on a theme of “a symbiosis of nature, technology and culture”. The Signature Building will include rentable plug & play office spaces for IT/ITES companies, customizable manufacturing units, conference centre / training centre, food court, as well as indoor and outdoor recreational spaces. The building will implement green features in its design such as low energy consumption, energy saving lighting, natural ventilation, and ecological materials sourced locally.
EWIS Tech Manufacturing Ltd., a joint venture between EWIS Srilanka and Tech Manufacturing Company Ltd. Bangladesh will be setting up a modern hi-tech manufacturing facility at Block V to produce a range of smart electronic devices.
Summit is developing Blocks II & V of the first ever Hi-Tech Park in Bangladesh with an aim to become a major regional manufacturing destination for IT/ITES, Biotech companies, non-polluting manufacturing /assembly lines and precision engineering companies. Summit will invest USD 210 million over the next ten years to provide infrastructural and backbone support to the Park, enabling it to become the destination of choice for IT/ITES companies, high technology manufacturers and industries. Summit will also provide financial guarantee of uninterrupted power supply at similar tariff as of Government Of Bangladesh. Summit Technopolis Limited, a consortium of Summit Group and Infinity Infotech Parks Limited from India, has signed a Concession Agreement for a 40-year concession for Block II and Block V of Kaliakoir Hi Tech Park.
Kaliakoir Hi Tech Park boasts a strategic position, being located 40 km from the capital city of Dhaka, and is connected to regional hubs through extensive rail, sea and air routes. The Park will have uninterrupted power supply, high capacity fiber optic connectivity and special express rail facilities between Dhaka and Kaliakoir Hi Tech Park. The expected employment generation from the 2 Blocks will be over 70,000 jobs, and there will be state-of-the-art facilities to provide training to over 10,000 people. The project will maintain the highest standards of environmental sustainability, efficiency & eco-friendly facilities.
The Park is accompanied by an attractive financial and tax incentive package which will help incubate and nurture homegrown startups, creating a platform to work alongside MNCs. This will strengthen the ability to harness manufacturing innovation through collaboration between industries and research both locally and globally. The Park will create this environment with holistic infrastructure and facilities in terms of internal shuttles and non-stop rail service between Dhaka and the Park, which will enhance business efficiency and competitiveness of the occupant companies.
In pursuing the goal of a knowledge-based economy, Bangladesh is making its transition from a low value addition economy by spearheading the “Vision 2021” of the Government of Bangladesh. This targets the establishment of a resourceful and middle-income country by 2021 through effective use of information and communication technology (ICT) thereby launching a “Digital Bangladesh”. The mission of the Park complements ‘Vision 2021’ as it plans to build a self-sustaining campus to promote innovation, the successful commercialization of science and technology and economic growth.
